Abstract:

The conditions for developing English-language academic journals in China are now favourable. Government investment in scientific research is increasing annually, there are many researchers at a high academic level with good English, and many key scientific research laboratories and engineering research centres have been established. There is also a big increase in the number of editors qualified in English. At present both the number and quality of English-language journals are low, so the Chinese government is acting to support such journals and remedy their defects. There is thus a great opportunity for the development of such journals.
