Requirements for an Online electronic journal service
Abstract:This article is based on a report made to the Electronic Journal and Learned Societies Project, part of the Electronic Libraries (eLib) Programme. It is concerned with investigations undertaken in late 1996 into the commercial services able to provide an online electronic document delivery service for academic journals on behalf of the small society publisher unwilling or unable to provide an independent service. Thirteen organizations were approached and a questionnaire circulated to them was returned by the majority. The results indicated that at that stage there was no obvious choice of one supplier to meet the needs of any small society publisher. The reasons for this are discussed and possible ways forward considered.
