Fly‐by‐Wire for Vertical Lift

Fly‐by‐wire control for verlical‐lift aircraft is reviewed. Reasons for selecling particular fly‐by‐wire configurations are discussed, with emphasis on hardware systems developed for the U.S. Army Heavy‐Lift Helicopter (HLH) Fly‐by‐Wire Demonstrator and the HLH prototype. A production derivative of the HLH syrtems which was proposed for the U.S. ArmyIBueing Vertol UH‐61A UTTAS is dcsrribed. Changes in design from the HLH systems result in considerable simplification in control artuators and elimination of one full‐time hydraulic supply.
