Abstract:
Due to the decrease in physical activity levels and—as a result—the increasing prevalence of overweight, even among young children, preschool is an ideal setting to begin monitoring children's physical activity levels and to implement health-related physical education curricula. This article reviews what is currently known about the physical activity behaviors of preschool children and examines professional preparation and program standards for early childhood education as they relate to physical education. This examination sheds light on the need for an increased emphasis on health-related physical education in preschool settings.Document Type: Research article
