Referring URL Authentication Helper

This page is provided as a means for customers to test referring URL authentication to the IngentaConnect website.

Its recommended that you sign out from any existing sessions when testing referring url authentication. The website uses cookies and your browser may be rejoining an existing session rather than authenticating as a new user.

For IngentaConnect to authenticate users by referring URL, the browser must send a Referer header when connecting to our servers. If the Referer header is not sent then authentication will fail. Use the information on this page to help debug links to this site and confirm that the required information is being sent by the browser.

Referer Header

If your browser has sent a Referer header when requesting this page then it will be displayed here:

Your browser has not sent a Referer header.

This may be due to any of the following reasons:

Current Authentication Details

You are currently recognised as the following users. If referring URL authentication has succeeded then one or more of the identities listed below will indicate the method of authentication:

+ Guest User: anonymous user
IP address: 38.103.63.58

If the browser has sent a referer header and the expected user is still not listed above, then it is possible that our authentication database does not contain this referring location. Contact the help desk or your account manager to have the configuration updated.

If referring URL authentication is succeeding when linking to this page but not to other locations on this website, then please check that you are using the latest link syntax. For example when linking to content do not link to the older ingentaselect.com or ingenta.com, instead link directly to the relevant location on IngentaConnect.com. The only exception to this is for incoming OpenURL links which should continue to use openurl.ingenta.com.
