Browse displays the options for browsing all of the journals and books in IngentaConnect. You can browse by publication title, subject, collection or publisher.
Search and Advanced Search link you to the advanced search screen, which displays the full set of options for searching for articles and chapters in IngentaConnect. You can perform searches across both the electronic and fax/Ariel databases (electronic titles are available for immediate download; fax/Ariel titles will be dispatched to you via one of these means within 48 hours). Search options include: title, abstract, and keywords; authors; publication name, volume and issue; year. Alternatively, you can perform a quick search from the text box in the right-hand menu from most pages of the site.
Quick search supports the Boolean operators AND, OR, NOT, with AND being the implied action if no operators are used.
- The search phrase badger population will return all articles that contain the word badger and also the word population
- If you enter badger or population you will get all articles that contain either word, or both. You could get results as diverse as tuberculosis in badgers and population of Nepal.
- Using NOT will limit your search to articles containing the first word but not the second. For example badger not tuberculosis will return articles containing the word badger but will exclude any articles that also contain the word tuberculosis.
- Use parentheses (brackets) to group search terms. shark and (white or blue) will bring back articles containing the word shark plus the word white, and/or shark plus blue.
- Use quotation marks to search for exact phrases. "third wave" might give you results from various academic disciplines. Apply Boolean operators with two or more phrases to restrict the search e.g. "third wave" and "feminist theory".
- Use asterisks to create wildcard searches. So psychol* will return results containing psychology, psychological, and psychologically.
There are three standard search options:
- Electronic content will search the article titles, keywords and abstracts of all articles that are available electronically.
- Fax/Ariel content will search the article titles, keywords and abstracts of all articles that are not available electronically but can be delivered to you by fax or Ariel.
- Journal or Book title will search the titles of the publications only, not the articles within the publications.
If your institution is a subscriber to our IngentaConnect Complete service, you will see a fourth option:
- Subscribed content will restrict your search to content to which your institution subscribes (and to which, therefore, you will have toll-free access).
For more search options use Advanced Search.
Search History displays a list of the searches you have conducted during your current session. Selecting a search from the list will run the search again and display any new results. The Search history page provides further information about each search, and allows you to save searches and create email search alerts.
Shopping Cart displays the items you have chosen to purchase in your current session. You can purchase articles and issues for immediate download or delivery via fax or Ariel, and you can purchase alerting services to improve your research resources.
Print will load a printer-friendly version of the current page.
Subscription options offers you the chance to link to the appropriate page (personal or institutional) for activating your online access to an existing journal subscription.
Article access options moves you down the page to the blue-banded article access area, which indicates whether you currently have access rights to the article. If so, it will indicate what formats are available for viewing the full text. If not, the available pay-per-view options will be presented.
Export options displays the various formats in which it is possible to export the current page, record or list to a citation manager.
Linking options lists the different types of URL available for linking to the current page. To copy a link, you will need to right-click and choose "Copy Shortcut" (Internet Explorer users) or "Copy Link Location" (Firefox users). An IngentaConnect URL contains our proprietary identifier for the article. An IngentaConnect ISSN URL is a title-level link constructed using a predictable syntax. An OpenURL is constructed according to a predictable syntax (OpenURL 0.1). Please note that the base URL of OpenURL links is the Ingenta server; you would need to change this to your institution's base URL in order for this URL to link you to your institution's specified "appropriate copy" of the journal, issue or article in question.
Alerting options indicates the ways in which you can keep up to date with the journal you are browsing, including signing up for emailed "new issue" alerts, or configuring "latest issue" or "recent issue" RSS feeds.
Bookmarking options displays the various options available for adding either to your marked list (within IngentaConnect), or to external social citation/bookmarking services such as del.icio.us or Connotea. Click on "Add to marked list" to select the current article for inclusion in your Ingenta marked list. Click one of the other options to post to external services; you will need to be separately registered with these services.
Marked List displays the articles that you have selected for inclusion in your marked list. Articles can be added to the marked list from search results, tables of contents and abstract pages. The marked list will only be saved from session to session if you have signed in as a personal user. Register now to make the most of the services on IngentaConnect.
